Day Trip to Leiden (South Holland, Netherlands) from Amsterdam
Plattegrond van Leiden , anonymous, 1612-1648 In June 2024, my husband and I took a trip to Leiden to see the place where many pilgrims lived for 12 years prior to sailing on the Mayflower to the New World in 1620. Getting to Leiden is an easy day trip from Amsterdam via train. The challenging part is figuring out what to see when you get to Leiden! Unfortunately, information is scattered and not easy to find. As a result, I decided to compile some of my travel tips and lessons learned about Leiden sites so it may help future travelers – whether they descend from Mayflower passengers or not. All of these sites are walk-able from Leiden Central Train Station . We went to most sites listed but, sadly, “discovered” some of them only upon our return home to Wisconsin.
